He joined me to discuss his book and examine how sabermetric research has evolved over the past decade. He spoke about the value of the defensive shift and why more batters don’t bunt against it. He also discussed the creation of Wins Above Replacement and why giving players credit for half a run makes sense. We also discussed the value of context-neutral statistics and why some numbers are more about the cultural significance surrounding them more than the number itself.
