This episode of the Replacement Level Podcast features Harry Pavlidis. Harry is the Director of Technology for Baseball Prospectus and the founder of Pitch Info.
Baseball Prospectus just released some new pitching metrics and Harry joined me to discuss how they were conceived and what they accomplish. The metrics were derived from BP’s existing pitch framing metrics with the idea that some pitchers are more catchable than others. The metrics (CSAA, CS Prob, and Tunnels) focus on a pitcher’s command, control, and deception. The metrics help explain the difference between command and control, and quantify some of the old-school scouting lingo surrounding them.
