This episode of the Replacement Level Podcast features Mitchel Lichtman. Mitchel revealed how he first got into sabermetrics, what findings surprised him when he was researching/writing The Book, and if GM’s can properly be evaluated.
Mitchel developed the defensive metric UZR. He detailed how it was created, where it’s deficient, and why MLBAM’s new tracking technology will likely soon render it obsolete.
He also discussed his recent study on players who over or under perform to their preseason projections and if their mid-season projections are more predictive going forward than their actual mid-season stats.
